My daughter was parading around in her Halloween costume the other night (a vampire of course) when she announced "I've come for you Edward! Now, take my mother!" it was all I could do to stifle my laugh and say, "Yes Edward, take me!" I started to wonder what effect my Twilight/Rob obsession was having on my children...

My 15 year old read the Twilight series in a month. Thank goodness it was summer, because I would find her up reading at 3am. At the risk of sounding like a child psychologist, the books allowed us to have those mother/daughter talks about relationships and sex. She too thinks Rob is the hottest thing on two legs right now and we swoon over the newest pics together...as long as her friends aren't around.


My 12 year old is indifferent. She couldn't "get into" the books, and only watched the movie once. She does, however, find Taylor "hot" and happily accepts any Taylor posters I offer. Both are completely mortified by my obsession. They are tired of explaining to their friends why the living room is currently decorated with New Moon posters and a cardboard cut out Robward. My daughter begged me, as I was watching Rob on Ellen on my iPhone, to stop stalking Rob!

My 8 year old, on the other hand, has become my enabler. She scopes out the magazines at the grocery checkout: "This one has Rob in it, Mom". We buy Teen Bop and Tiger Beat magazines: "Here's a Rob poster for you Mom". If I'm looking particularly stressed: "Do you want to watch Twilight, Mom?"


This has also led to some interesting discussions at our home. My husband was not amused when he inquired as to my whereabouts and my 8-year-old informed him, "Mom's having her alone time with Rob" (I was on the computer), or "why do you like Rob's face dirty?" ( she was referring to scruff). And this question,"Mom, would you divorce Dad if Rob wanted to marry you?" which I tactfully evaded by explaining I would never meet Rob because he's in LA.


So, should I worry that my 8 year old only wants a New Moon t-shirt if Jacob is shirtless? The experts say: No. Fascinations with movie and book characters is normal for children. But, what about their mothers?
